Circularly aligned projects prioritize minimizing virgin material use while maximizing the incorporation of secondary materials in its processes and products including recycled, reused, upcycled, or other circular End-of-life (EOL) (EOL) treated materials.
The manufacturing and use phase presents significant opportunities to implement circular principles and embed circularity-oriented decisions throughout the product lifecycle. The core objective is to maximize resource and energy efficiency at every stage. This encompasses circular design strategies such as design for disassembly and upgradability, efficient use of resources and materials during manufacturing, and energy-efficient operation throughout the use phase.
The End-of-life (EOL) stage is where circular economy principles face their greatest test. The core objective is to keep materials and products in circulation for as long as possible, prioritizing treatment methods that follow the waste hierarchy while minimizing reliance on landfill and incineration. This means actively pursuing strategies such as reuse, remanufacturing, refurbishment, and recycling ensuring materials are recovered and prepared for subsequent use at their highest possible value.

Circular Alignment Screen: The Circular Alignment Screen is a structured, two-step screening process designed to assess whether an activity spanning products, services, or projects aligns with established circular economy principles, as defined by leading frameworks including the European Sustainability Reporting Standards (ESRS), the Ellen MacArthur Foundation, and the EU Taxonomy. The screen is organised into two core sections:

General Screen: A core set of questions that evaluates alignment with broad circular economy principles, applicable across all activity types.

Category-Specific Screen: A targeted set of questions tailored to the specific nature of the investment, ensuring a more precise and relevant assessment.

CES Enviroperform Analysis: A quantitative impact module that enables the calculation of measurable environmental outcomes based on the relevant material inputs provided.

Together, these sections provide a comprehensive qualitative evaluation of circularity alignment. Complementing this, a Quantitative Impact Module enables the calculation of measurable environmental outcomes including material savings, energy savings, and emissions reductions based on the relevant material inputs provided.
